FAQs

Common questions

What is ITR-7 and who must file it?

ITR-7 is the mandatory income tax return form for organizations claiming exemption under Section 139(4A), 139(4B), 139(4C), or 139(4D) — including Charitable Trusts, Societies, Section 8 companies, and educational/medical institutions.

What is the 85% income application rule for charities?

Under Section 11 of the Income Tax Act, a tax-exempt NPO must apply at least 85% of its income toward charitable objects in India during the financial year. If application falls below 85%, the unspent amount must be accumulated via Form 10 or Form 9A to avoid tax.

What is the difference between Form 10B and Form 10BB?

Form 10B is the audit report required for trusts/institutions whose total income exceeds ₹5 Crore, or which receive foreign contributions, or operate outside India. Form 10BB is used for other eligible NPOs under Section 10(23C) or Section 12A.
